Numark will have a combined audio interface - controller solution for the laptop DJ soon. Its name is Omnicontrol, and most of the technical parameters are kept in secret nowadays - on the official page there is very limited news information on it. The most important thing that can be known is the bundled software - you will get a Traktor 3 LE plus a MixMeister Fusion Live for the price which is to be announced.

Numark has an other new groundbreaking turntable, LP2CD, which writes CDs directly from the black discs, no additional hardware or software is required. It also has analog inputs that are written to the silver discs if you want, and connects to the computer's USB port to record and clean your LP tracks on any computer media (a software application is bundled for this purpose). Numark puts a new USB turntable model into the factory, PT-01USB. It is a driverless device, just connect it to the computer and it works. Bundled is a Vynil Converter software that does all the necessary steps to convert your black discs into mp3. You have an other option to convert any analogue signal to digital files: the turntable has a line level input which can be also digitized through the USB. PT-01USB spins at 33, 45 and 78 RPM, and there is a pitch modifier slider which speeds up and down 10 percent. If you want to know more about it just click here.

Frankfurt' Musikmesse, the world's biggest musical instrument and studio equipment show was held last week, and we were there of course to have an insider view of the current state of the music industry. We experienced slightly even worse mood than last year, the industry's weaking and transforming rapidly. Three sharp process can be observed:

From Numark, again: the name of the turntable is TTi, a device which provides digitised vynil sound directly on its USB port. A recording software is also included which cleans the signal from the pops and noises that are unwanted. But the biggest news is the iPod docking station - you can directly convert your LPs and SPs to mp3, without the need of a computer - just stick you 5th generation iPod into the hole and let the rock and roll begin. Numark's new NS7 is a general-purpose DJ controller with luxury features: turntable emulators are motorised, and it has a USB audio interface with 24 bit resolution (2 ins, 4 outs). House into solid metal, it is a very capable device for the heavily-touring DJ. A web page is found here.

NAMM looked two new studio device dedicated for iPod use: at first, Alesis has a new mixer, iMultiMix 9R, which is a 9-channel, rack-mountable analog mixer with five microphone inputs. What you see is true - in front it has an iPod docking interface. Anyway, it has no any special feature among it, the price is a very fair 400 USD. Second entry came from a DJ-specialist, Numark. It is a music file player with a rack-mountable docking station, called Fit For Sound. It is the professional solution for concert and event halls, bars and discos that are needed to provide a professional iPod music interface for the projects they are holding. The device is a well-built one with professional XLR outputs, but we still don't know its price. But here is the official webpage.

Numark has revealed their second iPod-DJ product, the iDJ2. It is much superior than its predecessor since it doesn't need two iPods for playing two channels but one instead. Beyond this, you can tempo adjust, scratch and loop both channels with its proprietary controls. It handles external USB hard disks - we hope it can play songs from there directly -, and accepts phono and line level inputs as well as a dedicated microphone. The color display is very nice and the QWERTY keyboard which is optional enhances the mixer's usability even much further. I have to mention the 3-band EQ on the channels, and an also important factor is direct playing all the protected iTunes content downloaded - but without any manipulation. iDj2's price will be 600 USD - here is the official page, enjoy.

It's sure we started the year of DJ control units recently. Numark also deals with this type of device, TotalControl, a USB control-only unit. It has no audio connection so you cannot integrate it with turntable or microphone, the targeted users are the numerous laptop-only DJs. It has 31 buttons, 20 knobs and 5 faders plus the turntable emulators - a decent set for a live DJ performance.
