EKS from Finland has announced a great new all-in-one DJ controller, Otus. It has a super-sensitive, 7,5" plate in the centre which illuminates. A ribbon controller sets the pitch, and an X/Y mouse-like pad serves effect parameter setting. It has four analogue plus two digital output channels - though there is no audio input at all. Moog started an interesting experiment: until 15th, February, we can preorder the legendary Taurus bass synth pedal, with MIDI and USB. The instrument is electrically ident with the vintage analog gear that was so famous for decades. Clavia has a new synth based on the Electro line: Electro 3. It is sample based, and reads all the Nord libraries, for example the piano samples of Nord Stage - unfortunately it has only 256 megs of RAM so don't expect gigapianos. Beyond samples, C1's organ algorhythms are also implemented, plus an effect processor which exceeds all the previous Nord in terms of features. Akai, master of midified wind instruments has announced a new wind controller, EWI USB with USB out. Price is nice: 500 USD only, and it doesn't need any driver or installation. A sample based softsynth is bundled with professional Garritan and Akai samples, and it can act as flute, saxophone, oboe or classic Akai EWI. Check the official page if you are interested.

Sonic Charge released a new software synth, Synplant, which breaks all your expectations that are related with a synthesizer plugin. Instead of dealing with usual parameters, Synplant uses a seed (a program patch) which you have to plant, and develop into different directions. Sound generation parameters are nested into a DNA-spiral far under the very simple surface. The program is a fun to use and I recommend it - it is worth a free try at least.

Sonoma Wire Works published a four track mini recording software for iPhone/iPod Touch, called FourTrack. It records only two tracks only at a time of course, but handles downloaded sound files as well. Compensates latency, and has a master compressor/limiter at the final stage. Via wifi, it is possible to synchronise with desktop recording application - it is not clear whether it performs automated mixing or not.
